The bass specialist Velodyne Acoustics is exhibiting at Integrated Systems Europe in Barcelona from January 31 to February 3, 2023. At booth 2F120, the new subwoofer series Deep Waves and VI-Q, both controllable via app, will be presented for the first time. Additionally, visitors to the exhibition can see the Impact X in 15 inches as well as the DB 8 in the new color white and the MicroVee X in high-gloss black. Also present at the booth are some prototypes, clearly showing that even the next innovations are already in planning.
Deep Waves: Affordable Subwoofers for Best Bass Performance
The newly introduced Deep Waves series impressively demonstrates that even smaller subwoofers in 10- and 12-inch sizes can achieve enormous levels and very low frequencies. Velodyne Acoustics has specifically utilized the experience from the ultra-compact MicroVee X series here. A similar design with a forward-firing driver along with side-firing passive radiators ensures unprecedented presence. With the iWoofer™ app, users are optimally supported in adapting the subwoofer to the room as well as their individual listening preferences. In the home theater, the high-quality, matte black cabinet also plays to its advantages: it reduces reflections and can be placed particularly inconspicuously in the room. The subwoofer can be classically and easily integrated into the speaker system via RCA input jacks for the LFE channel as well as speaker terminals.
With 350 watts RMS power or 600 watts maximum power for the 10-inch model and 400 watts RMS power / 800 watts maximum for the 12-inch subwoofer, the Class D amplification of the Deep Waves series is ready for impressive bass. A 2.5-inch voice coil with four-layer winding enables a high and extremely precise excursion together with a nitrile rubber surround. The cone is made of a particularly light paper composite material, which avoids partial vibrations and distortions even at larger excursions. The high-quality MDF cabinet with additional bracing also helps to minimize disturbing resonances.
VI-Q: Powerful Multi-Talent with Numerous Connections
With the VI-Q series, the bass specialists introduce a newly developed subwoofer series with sealed enclosure, light carbon fiber cone and 3-inch voice coil, characterized by excellent impulse response from the smallest volume. In addition to low distortion values, these models also focus on particularly convenient operation: The iWoofer™ app is used for room adjustment, and the 25-band parametric equalizer and presets of the software offer users full control. With the three available sizes from 10 inches to 12 inches to 15 inches, there is the right subwoofer for every application – from small home theaters and as a playing partner for the stereo system to high-end setups.
The 15-inch model, for example, can deliver a maximum sound pressure of up to 120 dB and delivers 650 watts RMS or 1200 watts maximum with its precisely tuned Class D amplification. Such a powerhouse naturally places the highest demands on the power supply: a highly efficient switching power supply with 2 x 25 A / 650 V MOSFET transistors leaves no room for compromises. The sheer power also necessitates careful planning of the enclosure. The massive front is therefore made of a 21-layer multiplex board with a material thickness of a full 50 millimeters to guarantee low distortion values. On the back, professional XLR connectors, RCA input jacks for the left and right channels, as well as speaker terminals ensure the best connectivity.
The Impact X in 15 Inches; New Colors for DB 8 and MicroVee X
This year, Velodyne Acoustics is not only introducing new subwoofers but also maintaining and expanding existing model series. Thus, the compact Deep Blue (DB) 8 in white is also present at the booth for the first time, and the smallest subwoofer MicroVee X can be welcomed in high-gloss black as a new feature in Barcelona. The highly popular and affordable Impact series is being expanded with a 15-inch subwoofer that uses a special flow-optimized slot opening on the back as a bass reflex. With a lower frequency limit of 19 Hertz, it is particularly designed for demanding home theater applications and is a true multi-talent with 9 DSP modes and remote control.
In-Wall Subwoofers SC IW-600 X and IW-800 X along with Amplifier Prototypes
The completely redesigned SubContractor series offers optimal conditions for in-wall installation with its two subwoofer models IW-600 X and IW-800 X, along with the separate amplifiers SC 1500 and 750. This allows the
home theater or even a living room to shine with full bass performance – completely without noticeable speakers or cables. At the trade show, the IW-600 X, successor to Velodyne Acoustics’ best-selling installation speaker, is on display at the stand. It uses two 6.5-inch drivers, proven passive radiator technology, and lightweight carbon fiber cones for its unique bass performance. The new IW 800 X is equipped with two 8-inch drivers with the same cone material and is sealed. Both share a redesigned front with a magnetic driver cover. The associated amplifiers SC 1500 and 750 are also already present as prototypes in Barcelona.
