With the compact MicroVee subwoofers, Velodyne Acoustics is already setting standards for incorruptible bass performance in compact enclosure dimensions. The new MicroVee X model now raises the bar once again. The 6.5-inch driver has been completely redesigned and the amplifier, now up to 800 watts strong, is conceived as a powerful “Class A/B” design. Together with a latest-generation DSP, the well-known low-vibration aluminum enclosure, and two passive membranes, these technologies make precise bass reproduction down to 32 Hz possible from an enclosure with a footprint of just 23 by 25 centimeters.
Subwoofer specialist Velodyne Acoustics presents the latest generation of its compact bass wonder with the MicroVee X. While the proven design with two passive membranes and an ultra-stable metal enclosure has already stood for fascinatingly powerful bass reproduction in amazingly compact dimensions, the MicroVee X offers an even more precise bass experience with a new driver and audiophile Class A/B amplification.
Revised Driver
As in the previous small-format subwoofers from Velodyne Acoustics, the MicroVee X also features a 6.5-inch chassis working together with two side-mounted passive radiators of the same diameter. The driver has been completely redesigned and now weighs an impressive 3.6 kilograms, of which three kilograms alone are attributed to the Y30 ferrite magnet material. The carbon composite diaphragm, with its ultra-flexible surround made of nitrile rubber and the 2-inch quad voice coil made of high-purity copper, ensures maximum distortion-free precision down to the deepest bass cellar.
High-Fidelity Class a/B Amplifier
The Class A/B amplifier of the new MicroVee X draws its 300 watts RMS and 800 watts peak power from no less than four massive 180-volt MOSFET transistors with 34 ampere current delivery capability, thus standing in the best tradition of classic high-fidelity power amplifiers of the highest quality class. The integration of such a powerhouse in such a compact enclosure places the highest demands on the power supply and leaves no room for compromises. The highly efficient switching power supply is also based on two MOSFET transistors with a capacity of 17 amperes and 650 volts.
Analog Devices DSP for Best Performance and Convenient Operation
For best performance under all operating conditions, Velodyne Acoustics’ developers have equipped the MicroVee X with a state-of-the-art DSP from Analog Devices. With specially adapted equalizer and limiter settings, this not only ensures the best acoustic properties but also convenient adaptability to the respective installation location. Polarity, volume, and activity of the internal crossover can be easily adjusted from the listening position using the elegant supplied remote control. The MicroVee X doesn’t even need to be visible: The included “Remote Eye” with its three-meter-long cable allows for unobstructed reception, even if the subwoofer itself has found an inconspicuous place under a piece of furniture.
Versatile Applications
With its ultra-compact format, the MicroVee X integrates seamlessly into any living environment while still delivering the powerful bass precision that has made Velodyne Acoustics subwoofers legendary. Its applications are nearly unlimited: The RCA connections for input and loop-through allow for easy installation in conjunction with a conventional two-channel setup and are compatible with both consumer and professional environments with an input capability of up to four volts. Additionally, an LFE input and speaker terminals are available for operation with external power amplifiers. For best performance in conjunction with sophisticated multi-channel systems, the internal crossover can be deactivated via remote control.
