Velodyne Acoustic introduces the DB-8, the most compact model in the Deep Blue series. As with the other sealed subwoofers in the series, a four-layer voice coil and a double ferrite magnet ensure low-distortion bass reproduction even at large membrane excursions. Additionally, a solid MDF cabinet and high-quality electronics with 300 watts RMS and 800 watts peak power are responsible for impressive precision from the deepest frequency cellar.
For the new DB-8 subwoofer, Velodyne Acoustics again relies on the sealed design, which has already been successfully used in the other models of the Deep Blue series. In its most compact, living room-friendly version, the 8-inch driver provides an acoustically impressive performance that only a bass reproduction specialist can achieve.
Deep Blue: Powerful Bass, Well-Thought-Out Design
While the new DB-8 model integrates inconspicuously into any living situation, it delivers big on bass reproduction. With the Deep Blue subwoofers in the hi-fi setup and home theater system, thrilling action movies, bass-rich pop music, and powerful effects are guaranteed. The Deep Blue series from Velodyne Acoustics was completely redesigned for this purpose. Drivers, amplifier electronics, cabinet, and all other components are precisely matched to ensure impressive performance with minimal space requirements. A key element for this is, of course, a chassis capable of achieving large excursions with maximum precision. Therefore, the forward-facing 8-inch driver features an elaborately designed quadruple voice coil and a double magnet, which together enable an impressive bass foundation with maximum control.
Compact Cabinet, Full Control
The generously dimensioned MDF material has been extensively braced inside the DB-8 to counteract resonances. As a result, the cabinets of the entire Deep Blue series do not come to the acoustic foreground and leave the “bass stage” to the drivers. Correspondingly tuned electronics are no less important for a subwoofer. The amplifier unit therefore delivers a powerful 300 watts RMS and 800 watts peak power, making it well-prepared for rapidly changing beats and effect-laden blockbusters. For connection, RCA input jacks for the left and right channels and a dedicated subwoofer input with pass-through option are available. Crossover frequency, phase, and volume are continuously adjustable to match the existing system.
